8LIEN Wheel User Care & Maintenance Guide

8LIEN Wheel User Care & Maintenance Guide

Thank you for choosing 8LIEN. Your wheelset is designed for high-performance road cycling and uses precision-engineered components. Proper care and regular maintenance are essential to maintain smooth performance, reliability, and long-term durability.

This guide provides the essential care and maintenance instructions for riders.

1. After Every Ride

Keep Your Wheelset Dry

After riding, especially in wet or humid conditions, wipe the wheelset and hub surfaces with a clean, soft cloth. Be sure to remove:

  • Rainwater
  • Sweat
  • Road dust and dirt
  • Salt or salt residue

Do not allow moisture, sweat, or corrosive residue to remain on the hub for extended periods.

Recommended routine: Clean → Wipe → Dry

2. Cleaning Your Wheelset

For regular cleaning:

  • Use clean water.
  • Use a soft, clean cloth.
  • Allow the wheelset to dry completely before storage.

What to Avoid

  • Do not use corrosive chemical cleaners.
  • Do not use aggressive solvents on the hub.
  • Do not direct high-pressure water at the hub.
  • Never force water into the hub, bearings, or freehub area.

IMPORTANT: Never use a high-pressure washer directly on the hub. High-pressure water can force moisture past the sealing areas and cause hidden corrosion, bearing damage, or freehub and ratchet failure.

3. Riding in Wet, Muddy, or Coastal Conditions

Your maintenance requirements depend on your riding environment:

  • Normal Road / Gravel Riding: Service the hub every 12 months or 5,000 km, whichever comes first.
  • Wet or Muddy Conditions: Service the hub every 3–6 months.
  • Coastal / Salt-Fog Environment: Long-term riding in coastal salt-fog environments is not recommended.

Riding in Salt-Rich Environments

If riding near the sea or in a salt-rich environment is unavoidable:

  1. Clean the wheelset after every ride.
  2. Remove salt and residue thoroughly.
  3. Dry the wheelset completely.
  4. Shorten the normal service interval.

Salt and moisture accelerate corrosion and component wear.

4. Storage

When storing your 8LIEN wheelset:

Recommended Storage Practices

  • Store indoors in a well-ventilated space.
  • Keep the wheelset dry.
  • Make sure the wheelset is completely dry before long-term storage.

Avoid Long-Term Exposure To

  • Sea breeze
  • Salt fog
  • High humidity
  • Acidic or corrosive air

Proper storage helps protect the hub, bearings, and freehub system from premature corrosion and wear.

5. Maximum Weight Limit

For Aether hub-equipped wheelsets, please observe the following limits:

  • Maximum System Load: 120 kg (Rider + Bicycle + Luggage)
  • Specified Rider Weight Limit: 100 kg

Do not exceed the specified limits.
